Madurai - Ramnad Diocese 55th council

Time for an other officer’s election in Madurai-Ramnad Diocese. The 55th council session of the Diocese of Madurai-Ramnad was scheduled for 29th & 30th May, 2015. The diocesan council members (360) who are elected from each pastorate around the Diocese were ready to cast their votes to the officer’s of the diocese for the term 2015-2018.
Two panels of 5 in each plus one independent candidate contested for the post of Deputy Chairman, Clergy Secretary, lay secretary, registrar, and treasurer. This election saw the first woman candidate contesting for the post of Lay Secretary. It's a season to give life to all the marketing modes such as campaigns, canvassing, pamphlets, voice messages, new media and phone calls by the panel members. From bungalows in the city to the royal houses in the village of the council members, panel members along with their supporters were having a walk-in in-spite of the climate change.
People started gathering from 7'o clock at the Bishop Christopher Asir Memorial Dental College campus. Registration of 100 Rs was collected and the tags were given to the council members. At around 9'o clock members started entering in and snacks were served. Council started with the communion service followed by the minutes of the previous councils and appointment of tellers, recording secretaries, and election officer. Rev.Gk.Chellappa's report reading of the previous term can never be matched with any other readers of the officers. He just flipped through 100's of pages and sat on his seat in the diaz in 10 minutes. I would say, he knew how to handle crowd who are expecting the other side of the council (the elections, of course). The present officers stepped down from the dias as the election officer took over to conduct the election.
The election officer Rev.Samuel Soundrapandian took roll call and Rev.Joshua made sure they were present. The rules and regulations were read that are to be followed during the election. Next came the declaration of the candidates with the proposer and seconder. The youngest council member of the Diocese seconded a candidate and she was appreciated for the guts. So totally 11 candidates contested for 5 posts.
Polling started around 12.30 and went on till 4.00. Two representatives for each candidate was allowed in during counting. Around 5.50 results were declared as Rev.Edwin Yesuraj as Deputy Chairman, Rev.David Jebaraj as Clergy Secretary, Mr.Fernandass Rathinaraj as Lay Secretary, Rev.Jacob as the Registrar, and Rev.Deva Irakkam as the Treasurer.
Congratulating the 2012-2015 officers for their effective service to the Diocese and the newly elected officers for the term 2015-2018.
Thank you so much Uma Catering, Mr.Anand and crew. Without you , none of us would have been there to cast our votes. You filled our stomach not only with food, but with happiness in our faces, energy to our body, and strength to stay longer in the council. Long live and may your business grow high. The winners its your duty to call and thank him for the service he extended yesterday. His number 9842108788. Extending a heart-full of thanks to the office staff of the Diocese.
Dear most winners of people hearts, don't lose hope! You are the real winners of the Diocese. They have won because of the single man who is supposed to be a genuine person. He is failing in his duties. You know whom I mean! Don't worry God still has his role to be played in the Diocese and He will choose the perfect time to implement it. So chuck out all the negative thoughts from your mind and be happy. The good God, my Lord, definitely has plans and you all will be rewarded for your talents sooner or later by God's abundant grace in the Diocese and they also will be rewarded for their activities from heaven above. Wait and watch the Lord performing His stunts! Good luck guys.

Peniel Home- Pastor's family retreat

Pastor’s family get together of Madurai-Ramnad Diocese, yet an other episode in 2015 at Peniel house, Natham. A beautiful campus located amidst the green lushes under the mountain, founded by Mr. Samuel and family. They are part of the founder’s team of Bethel Bible Institute, Salem.

Day started with a warm journey from the city in several buses filled with the members of pastor’s families. The bus headed towards Natham road to reach the Peniel Campus, crossing Hawa Valley (a resort), American College satellite campus, Stephen’s B.ed College and few other shops around. Session started with a prayer led by Rev.Gk.Chellappa, Secretary, Madurai Ramnad Diocese and few worship songs accompanied by Rev.Benjamin on keys. Rev. Samuel Packiam, ordained minister, Diocese of Tirunelveli was the guest speaker.

He was the executive secretary of NCCI, Inter-faith relations. He was a research scholar of Westminster College, Oxford and worked on Christian Muslim relations. He was designated as the Director of Henry Martyn Institute of Islamic studies at Hyderabad. He is a man of passion for bridging the religious difference between Christians and Muslims. As a first step, He learnt Arabic. He has written so many papers on the status of Muslim and he concludes that mutual trust is needed for religious establishment with servicing, witnessing, and peace-making.

His talk to the crowd was enriching in the hot summer. The casual talk with the present scenario of the pastors kept everyone awake throughout.

Apart from the serious sessions, the walk among the mango orchids, kids, new faces of the young couples, the hot tea, Uma catering briyani, the slow cycle race for the pastors, and lucky corner for men and women separately, and the gifts definitely made this day, a day to remember. It was so surprising when in both the lucky corner for men and women, same family received the prize. Rev.Gk Chellappa stood first for men and his wife Mrs. Mercy Chellappa stood first for women. The crowd applauded. Best wishes for the rest of the winners also.

The day ended with the prize distribution, heavy ice rain, warm tea and few chit chats about the upcoming elections.

Good day!  Thanking the organizers and the speaker.
